Evening all,

Seeing Penman's ideas of an MGA estate/GT (copied in below), got me wondering what other oddball one-off, or very low-volume, estates based on regular cars have there been over the years - any favourites?

RJ

My current project is one of 197 built - I guess it depends on your definition of low volume.

Mmmm! Oddballs and Estates: two of my favourite topics Very Happy

I've no idea how numerous these were, but lets start with a couple of Frenchies:

1947 Simca Huit Canadienne:

and 1960s Panhard PL17 Break:

I'm a sucker for Italian coachbuilt oddities, too, so how about a 1951 Fiat 1400 with Francis Lombardi body:

... and a 1959 Fiat 600 Giardinetta by Viotti:

Both almost certainly one-offs.

This is the first and it might be the only Radford Countryman in this style. It was the one in the forties adverts and it appeared at the 48 or 49 Motor Show, whatever was the first year. My son fitted a late 4.9 litre engine and high ratio axle so the owner could tour the continent with it.

I think Frank Dale are selling it now.

Two more Italian beauties, both Fiat 1100s:

1953 by Viotti

... and 1957 by Vignale

Consul Classic Estate.

Only a few of these were built, or converted, in Kenya for the Nairobi Police in the early 1960s. As far as I know only a small number are known in the UK:

Her Majesty the Queen's own PA Cresta Estate :

This PA Cresta, once one the Queen's favourite, is still in the Royal collection and bearing the same registration number.
It was painted new in a non standard Vauxhall colour - Imperial Green - and has special fishing rod attachments on the outside.
It was the star attraction at a Vauxhall special event in 2015. [/img]

Hi
Then there was the Sainsburys Jag

and this was called an estate car though it didn't really have a full rear access.

This Bentley has been in the same family all its life.
As you can see from the notice it is said to be unique.

Ronnie's photo reminded me that I had taken a photo of another estate car at Glamis a few years back. A Lea Francis.

But whilst looking for it I also came across this.

No time to dig out photos today, but the Lynx Eventer has always been one of my favourite cars. Then there were the XJ estates made by Avon, and even an XK150 estate!
