I have been pondering how these work.
A fan blade is designed to work in one direction so I am intrigued by adverts for electric radiator fans that are being sold as "universal" i.e. suck or blow depending on direction of rotation.
Surely, any curved blade fan will work better if it is used as designed?
OK , maybe air flow will be directed dependent on rotation ...but surely far better in one direction than another? |

| I suppose the description is correct, but depending on which side of the radiator the fan is fitted, or which way round? |

Yes Dave. The fan could be mounted on either side of the rad but I can't see it shifting the same CFM if rotation is reversed.
It is interesting to note that for maximum efficiency the better makes of fan offer either a "push " or a "pull" depending on your requirements.
I expect (and I haven't checked this out) that a "universal" fan will work in both directions. It may sound appealing...however ... the volume of air may flow more in one direction than another; a point that is probably ignored by the sellers. |

I always understood the meaning of 'universal fan' to be, it can be fitted to anything...rather than having a specific fitment? _________________ Dellow Mk2, 1951 built, reg 1952.
