Norwich Motor Co. Ltd.

A number of receipts for the Norwich Motor Company Ltd came into my possession a few years ago, all dated to either 1956 or 1957. They came with a stack of papers relating to an individual who ran his own garage/engineering business in the area. Most of the papers are grouped together, depending on which vehicle the garage's owner was working on at the time. In this instance, it was a Humber car, registration LLO 744, which ties in with his custom at the Norwich Motor Company as they were Rootes Group dealers for the area, as the invoice shown below confirms.
This invoice refers to the sale of a fan belt and pulley for the Humber, dated 18th July 1956. The car's registration - LLO 744 - is a London issue, dating to late 1950. This suggests that the Humber was one of the magnificent large saloons that the company was well known for at the time, an example of a Humber Pullman of the era may be found on this page, in the image archive here on Old Classic Car.
Rootes Group garage in Norwich
The DVLA site shows no mention of a car of this registration surviving.
But what of this Norwich-based Humber, Hillman, Sunbeam-Talbot, Commer and Karrier garage today? The paperwork gives its address as 118-120 Prince of Wales Road, Norwich, but alas there's no garage there now, only buildings of more recent times. By the early 1970s, the Norwich Motor Co. Ltd. was an agent for Jensen motor-cars.
More items of paperwork, such as booklets, leaflets and similar motor-related ephemera, can be found in the Motoring Collectables section.
