If you'd like to see pics of scrap classics in Australia, check out the Australian Gallery when finished here! Car Gallery 1985-2000Unless stated, all the images here were taken by myself between 1985 and 2000 using a traditional 35mm camera. To get them onto the web, I have scanned them but undoubtably the detail has suffered slightly. My favourite scrapyard was situated near the village of Lymm in Cheshire. Called Statham Enterprises it was a regular haunt of mine when I was looking for parts to fit my old cars. It was a great old place, packed with 1950s-1970s cars, where you could just wander around unhindered, gazing in awe at the decaying relics that were slowly disintegrating. Dust to dust, and all that. Sadly this particular yard was sold off in the 1990s, the site (a former Polish prisoner of war camp) being sold to housing developers. When still in use as a breakers yard one of the old POW buildings was still there, and it was piled high with unusual old items of motoring memorabilia from years gone by. I've no idea where it all went. The guy who ran it (Stuart I think) lived nearby. The final time I called in, nearly all the old cars had been crushed and taken away. There were just two cars remaining, one being a Mk2 Jaguar that was to have its manual/overdrive gearbox removed before the rest went for the chop. A photo of that car is in this archive, as are others from when the yard was still operating. If you have any great old pictures taken at scrap yards in years gone by, it'd be nice to feature them here for all to enjoy. I plan to do a second Volume of scrap-car images soon, taken since 2000. Interesting yards are getting harder and harder to find, but with a little determination it is still possible to find abandoned or derelict classics bravely holding on to a shaky existence. If you know of any cars like those shown here, try to get the photograph'd, if only to record their existence before being cleared away for ever. I've had a look around online, and have found some other people's scrapyard photos, if you want to see some more!!
