TR2 Sportscar toy

TR2 Triumph

A classic Brit sportscar toy

Another great toy from Alan's collection - this time a representation of the TR2 2 seater sportscar, built by Triumph in the early 1950s. The toy shown here, one of several made by Victory Industries and featured at oldclassiccar, is finished in in 'Geranium' colour, and still has its original box and instructions leaflet.

TR 2
The TR2 was the first of what was to be a long line of classic TR sportscars, which progressed from the 4 cylinder cars (TR2, TR3, TR3A, TR4, TR4A) through to the sought-after 6 cylinder TR5/TR250, and TR6, and came to a shakey end with the 4 cylinder, Dolomite-powered, TR7s, and 3.5 TR8 (built in very small numbers only).

The TR2 first saw light of day in 1953, bringing in a totally new shape of sportscar for the Triumph company. The styling was all-new, although the engine was borrowed from the Phase 1 Standard Vanguard, albeit fitted with twin SU carbs for a little extra oompphhh. The car received a number of improvements a couple of years later, and became the TR3 for 1955.

If full-size cars are more your thing, a real-life TR2, also in red, can be seen here.
