Allard M-Type car.
A few years ago I bought a batch of photographs, taken to assess "problem" parking in London one September's day in 1954. Included within them is this cracking image, which features a host of classics in the capital. Probably the rarest car there is the M-Type Allard Drophead Coupe, registration DFX 826, parked on the right hand side of shot. Other cars in that row include a Mk1 Zephyr, an Austin A40 (small headlights identify it as an early example, possibly a 2-dr Dorset), another Ford, a Sunbeam-Talbot, and a low-light Minor.

The row of parked cars to the left include a Mk1 Zephyr Zodiac and a tantalising selection of pre-war motor-cars. Driving towards the photographer is a rare cab, in the form of a Wolseley Oxford taxi (at first I thought it might be a Beardmore), with a Humber parked over to its left, and a van owned by The Castle Laundry parked behind that.

The M-Type Drophead Coupe.
A few online searches reveal that this particular M-Type Allard is still around. DFX 826 was delivered new in March 1949, powered by a 3.6 litre flathead Ford V8. Shown below a closer look at the Allard as it looked when just five years old.

Other classic Allards featured on the site include this J2, a K2 and an unusual experimental Allard seen in 1939.
