What do forum members use as 'shock absorber fluid'? Many moons ago this was available as an over-the-counter maintenance product, but no more. I have read that hydraulic jack oil is an acceptable substitute and not too pricy, but would be interested in comments from others as to what thay found works for them. Confused

Companies like Penrite list shock absorber/damper oils, I had a bottle or two come with the utes I bought from Oz years ago iirc.

Most motor bike shops have shock absorber fluid on the shelf in a range of grades allowing for some small adjustments of damper rates.

I. Have just cleaned and freed off the pear shaped shocks on the rear of my Morris 8 2 seater, having drained the old oil and flushed them with paraffin I then filled them with Citroen LHM hydronic fluid. They now work great.

When I had my roly-poly Vanguard Phase 2, I met a retired mechanic who served his time on Standards in a rural garage, where a lot of customers towed cattle trailers. I asked him what he did about shock absorbers which were getting soft.
1, EP90, then,
2, EP120, then
3, Fit a grease nipple to the buggers,
was the reply.
