Hi all,

I need some advice on how to separate glass from reflector, on a headlight / spotlight.

Its glued together with some White (hard) glue, just like on a Cibie headlamp.

And as the Cibie,s one of them has come apart due to age, but the other one wont move.

i have had good results by putting the units in the oven on a low temp for about an hour. softens the adhesive if you get the temp right, cracks the glass if you get it too hot however.

Hi,

Kev,

thanks for your reply, but I am afraid of doing just that .

These spots are extremely rare, I have tried to Google them several times,
after I got computer (both in Germany where they were made)
and in English = nothing to be found on the internet ANYWHERE Rolling Eyes

I only found this set (after 25 year search) so I am afraid to brake the glass.

The spotlights are called Condor, incase anyone wonder, or have heard of them.

PS here is a thread I made years ago =

Hi
Maybe the glue would soften with acetone or even brake fluid - this wont damage the glass and should be a gentle way to separate the parts...

Cheers

Hi Jon,

thanks, I will try with those 2 first, and let you know if any of them did the trick?

Another thing that might be worth trying so long as everything else is glass or metal, I wouldn't risk it on plastics. A long time ago I found that Nitromors type paint stripper can also soften old glues to the point they can be scraped away - forget how or on what, but I was quite pleased with the result.

Thanks, nice to have a few options to try out, and yes - no worries, these are old spotlights, so metal reflector & proper glass lense.
