Hi all,

New to the forum - and need some help on identifying a Zenith carburettor..

I'll introduce myself a bit more thoroughly in another thread - but basically I'm dealing with classic Volvos (the 120 series mainly) and the early ones also use the Zenith carb. - I've had this one lying around for more than 10 years - it's NOS - but I haven't been able to identify it - it's not for the Volvos although it's almost the same Volvo used.

Can anyone help me out?

TIA.

It says on your carb VN

This is the model of carb.

If you can tell me the diameter of the choke tube I may be able to tell you what it fits. They made the VN carb in these choke tube sizes according to my Zenith book: 30, 32, 33, 34, 36, 37, 42mm.

Hope this helps

It would appear to be a Type VN, but what size is it? The 36VN was used on early Volvos, but also on International Harvester tractors! Smaller sizes, 30 and 34, were fitted to Vauxhall Velox and Ford Consul of the mid-1950s...
I would guess there will be quite a wide variety of applications for the basic body, but fixtures and fittings will differ; I think the C-number on the inlet casting is the contract number which will positively identify it, but I don't have the records to confirm it, sorry. I don't think all applications have the additional casting on the bottom of the carb, so that might help identification.

Edit: D4B beat me to it!

Thanks! Great - well, I should have specified that I am aware of that it is a VN model Zenith carb. - I was more looking for an answer that could direct me towards where it's used - car/make/engine etc.

On top of the reservoir it's stamped:

C 1645 0456

Diameter of hole that goes against manifold, apr. 36 milimeters (I don't have 100% accurate figure here, sorry).

If it is a 36VN there are many applications, one of which is
Volvo B18A 1961 - 1966

I will expand on that when I have more time Wink

It appears to be a governor type which would point towards a commercial rather than a car, cheers,JD.
