Rick has an article about Daimlers that includes a photo of one being loaded on to a motorail (Circa 1960's) There are also some other photos taken at the same location.

I thought the subject was in the Mystery Photo section but I couldn't find it there.

Here is another photo dated 1967.

and on The National Rail Museum website is this

http://www.nrm.org.uk/ourcollection/photo?group=Liverpool%20Street&objid=1995-7233_LIVST_PM_253

and 007's Aston Martin also got a ride.

http://nationalrailwaymuseum.wordpress.com/2012/09/14/james-bond-007-lets-the-train-take-the-strain/

The whole area has now been redeveloped and there is no trace of the branch lines, or the mill buildings seen in the background.

A railway website dealing with Sutton Coldfield has misidentified the location as being in Sutton Coldfield.

Great photo of the Victor Peter. The Railway Museum link says that the Motorail service to Scotland stopped in 1988. Maybe this was true from Caledonian Road but I can remember delivering a car to my daughter in France and using a service that ran from Scotland to Euston in the early 1990s.

From what I read last night, various sites, the service was slowly withdrawn over time and ended in 1995.

Going from my time working with on-rail car haulers in Canada, I would say they are likely to be the bridge plates. Bridge plates are put in place once the doors are opened and removed before closing and transit.

The loading/unloading crew would deliver and collect a pair from each railcar junction during the process.

I have not yet been able to find a Motorail photo, but this is the plate (yellow) used on US/Can railways.

Very likely Peter as I've seen a photo of the car deck running the length of the train, i.e. continuing between the carriages.

That's the Mk10 Rick. I had it in my mind that the Daimler and Jag photos were on the same page, but it is more likely that I put them together in my mind mainly because of the common location.

I'd forgotten about the Daimler DR450 photos, at the bottom of this page: http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/daimler.htm.

Perhaps all the cars and references to Motorail maybe be put together ? I know it means extra work.

It is an interesting chapter of British motoring history.
