47Jag's thread about the V8 got me thinking about different engine configurations I've had in cars, old and modern, over the years. This I think is the list, most but not all were runners mind Wink

PETROL:
3 cyl, inline, 2 Stroke (Saab)

4 cyl, inline, Sidevalve (Fords, Austin, Morris...)
4 cyl, inline, OHV (A30, A40, Bedfords...)
4 cyl, inline, OHC (MX5...)

5 cyl, inline, OHC (Volvos)

6 cyl, inline, Sidevalve (Dodge)
6 cyl, inline, OHV (Vauxhall 12, Spit/GT6)
6 cyl, inline, OHC (Jaguar, BMW)
6 cyl, V6, OHC (Volvo 760GLE)

12 cyl, V12, OHC (Jaguar, BMWs)

No V8s, V16s or Straight Eights as yet Smile

DIESEL:
4 cyl, inline, OHV (Morris J2)

Yes Paul it would not let me use the 'W' name for my rotary engine either.

My vehicle summary totals - so far:

29 cars - Honda 600 to Lincoln - the list in between is even more embarrasing.
128 cylinders - in groups of 2 4 6 or 8 - not all necessarily firing when they should.
50 litres - 600cc to 4.6l.

So far:

3 X 4 Cyl SV
9 X 4 Cyl OHV
5 X 4 Cyl OHC
2 X V4 OHV (Saab 96s)
1 X Citroen BX 14 which seemed to have both OHC and OHV Shocked

Nothing with more or less than 4 cylinders so far (except for a moped), I must do something about it. Smile Interesting thread though.

6 Cylinders IoE in Rover 90's (x 2)
V8 OHV Fuel Injected in Rover SE

Also once had 4 Cyl OHC in 1930 Morris Minor

.... and plenty more conventional 4 cyl side valve, OHV and OHC as well as 6 cyl OHV engines.

I can now add V8 to that list (brief P5B ownership)
