Has anyone here any experience of the Peak hitch damper fitted to a late 70's Viking? Mine has started to bang when braking hard but not so much on pulling away, I can see the rear mounting bolt but the damper then goes into the hitch tube and I can't see any other mounting bolt, sorry to be so thick Rolling Eyes but help is needed again Crying or Very sad . Thanks in advance.

The 'other bolt' is the rear bolt that hold the coupling head to the draw tube Capt.

There are no bolts holding the hitch head onto the tube it appears to be one unit, and peak say they have no knowledge of the older units. thanks for your help though.

I'm sorry Capt., I wasn't much help was I?
More precisely, I wasn't any help at all.

I recently wasted a great deal of time trying to get a non-standard damper, it was a total no-no.

Have you considered getting a period replacement coupling?
A replacement (new) draw tube, coupling head, and weight appropriate damper?
Or even a complete new coupling?

Dampers are pretty important since they control your van brakes.

Kind Regards, WLC
