i have to mount new friction shocks on my car , replacing the "fix" that some bright spark did with non-standard hydraulic lever type. Confused

The Morris 8 series E had them, so were used in the late 1930's.

My 1931 Bsa Vee twin four wheeler has them on the rear springs.
Any advances on this?

Regards Kels.

It is probably difficult to find anything earlier than that...assuming they are the original bushes! Very Happy
I guess the predecessor would have been rubber bushes, without the external metal casing as in original Andre Hartford shocks. i.e. not Silentblocs.
Citroen had them from 1934/35.

The dreadful Austin 12/6 (March 1931 reg JF 1670 which the web tells me is now on a BMW of some sort!) had the remains of these in the spring eyes in 1967 so i guess 1930 ish is about right.
Bought it for £12.50 in 1967 - 15 mpg and about 55 mph flat out. Sold to a bloke in Grantham in around 1975 after it had festered in my shed for a few years.
I suspect before their invention (and of course they were a cheap alternative) was a proper bronze or brass bush and a steel pin.

The Talbot has them on the suspension eyes and that was designed in 1925.
