Got a problem...............I need to remove glue from a painted surface.

The paint is faded enamel forty years old on metal.

The glue is an evo stick type.

The surface is around 5 x 7 feet and is on the underneath of a roof!

All ideas welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Hi
if it's contact adhesive, I have removed it with carburettor cleaner, but carburettor cleaner will in quantity remove solvent paints like cellulose, so care is required.

Cheers Dave

Or perhaps try a caramel wheel?

If it is Evo-stik it is not particularly good in wet conditions so something like a steam wall paper stripper might well encourage it to come off. I assume it is on the underside of the roof!

If it really is enamel, try thinners. If it is cellulose don't even think about it. Apart from that, I have found fingertips work quite well, if a little tedious. It's how I do some of my re-upholstery on fibreglass or metal bases.

Lighter fuel. This is what the dent guys use to remove the dollys attached to the bodywork by hot glue melt. Should be good for adhesive.

I imagine that a caramel wheel used carefully would do the same
job as fingertips but less pain after... goggles required I think Idea
