Old vehicles and the anniversary of Foden in Sandbach are celebrated.A collection of photographs from the festival of transport held in Cheshire.A bright sunny day welcomed the 2006 festival of transport to Sandbach, after a year's break in 2005. Once again a varied collection of preserved cars, lorries, vans, motorcycles and tractors turned up, to make this a very pleasant day for everyone. It also coincided with St. George's Day, so the English flag (thankfully not being waved for footballing reasons this time) was much in evidence. 2006 was also the 150th anniversary for the Foden company in Sandbach, so understandably many products from this famous Cheshire lorry manufacturer were in evidence, as were cars from the Bentley factory just up the road in Crewe. Sadly the 150th anniversary for Foden coincided with the news that their offices will disappear from Sandbach altogether later in 2006, making this event especially poignant for all those who worked at the factory in the 'good old days' of British lorry manufacture. Other attractions at the event included a dancing troupe, a youth band, and, for the younger elements of the crowd, Dingle Findle the clown, in his jalopy. But for everyone else, the main draw was undoubtably the array of classic vehicles displayed on the Common. At 1pm the vehicles set off on a leisurely parade around the streets of Sandbach, with the route several people deep as spectators tried to find a good vantage point from which to watch the old motors drive by. Hats off the marshals who did a good job of keeping things flowing, and keeping the general public out of the way as the cars and lorries moved about - not an easy job by any means. Shown below are 95 of the photographs I took that day. Credit goes to everyone who made the effort and brought their classics to the show - keeping some of these old girls in good running order can be quite a headache, so sometimes just getting to a show can be an achievement in its own right.
